Blog
Winters Productions is based in Michigan with staff members throughout the country. We make it a point to only hire workers from the U.S., all of which have done some type of 'national accounts' or have over a decade of experience in their field. Two advantages of working with a 'local' firm is you're supporting a North American company and the process is more secure. We've heard the horror stories from clients that tried to outsource overseas, particularly to the Asian market, but ended up with more headaches than content.

We've heard it all - signed contracts meant nothing to overseas outsourcing firms, marketing companies suddenly falling of the map or money going to an overseas business that didn't provide the content they promised. Some clients, if you can call them 'lucky', did get their content...in broken English, and obviously not what they expected.

So yes, we cost more. We don't work pennies on the dollar but we're an All-American company that's been serving clients like you for seven years with nearly an 80% returning client rate. That means you can trust that we won't be going anywhere.

So below is a list of our Frequently Asked Questions as well as a few questions we have for you as you consider a writing firm.

Frequently Asked Questions To Winters Productions

What do you charge? With so many services you can choose from, it really depends on the project. Our pricing is mostly based on word count or a per project basis. You give us a word count and we write within a set  number you give us. It really depends on how large the project is. For example, a standard SEO article of 300 words is .15 per word ($45) and would be between 275-325 words. An in-depth researched article of 1000 words at .25 per word ($250) would be anywhere from 900-1100 words. Since our background is in journalism we're used to writing to a particular word count, so that means you can expect us to come pretty close regardless. We give ourselves a bit of space because we've heard other writers talk about clients who complain that their 500 word article came in at 495 words. In truth, we want to work with clients that prize quality over quantity, but we still have this rule in place.

What if I don't know how many words I need? That's why we're here. If you tell us about your project we can give you an idea of what you might need. Some web pages might be 250 words (for SEO coverage) while others might be 1000+. But we won't know until you contact us and tell us about your project.

Do you do private publicity services? We do have a publicist for hire on staff. The rates are $2500 per month and includes everything a publicist does in order to get promotion for your business - Press Releases, Web copy, Ad copy, contacting media sources, etc. etc.

Can I call you? Absolutely, but we set up appointments for phone calls. We spend so much time writing that if we answered the phone every time it rang we'd never meet a deadline, and deadlines are important to us. But we're happy to take your call if you email us in advance and we set up a time together.

Will you call me? No, that's one of the ways we keep our rates so low. We don't charge extra fees, like phone service fees (unless you make plans in advance to cover phone calls for large project that includes 'team' meetings).  It's just easier for everyone if you call us. That way you'll still know our rates and you can declare the expensive on your income tax for that year. As an added bonus, we're not playing phone tag with each other.

What is your turn around time? It varies but on average you'll see copy within 24-72 hours after the deposit has been paid. Of course, if you want 80 articles we can't do that in two days because we don't resell clients' work. Your copy is built from scratch. But we can do 80 original articles in a week. So turnaround really depends on the project scoop.

Questions to Consider Before Hiring a Copywriting Firm or Design Firm

Did they respond within 24-48 hours of your inquire? If not, how long do you think it will take to get your project once they have 'money in hand'? Our turnaround time is within 24 hours, Monday-Friday, from when you first contact us to getting a response. It's within 48 hours on the weekend. If you don't get a response that means we didn't get your email so please resend it.

How long have they been in business? With time comes experience and with experience comes knowledge. You can learn many things in school, but the greatest lessons we learn in life, and in business, are from practical experience. If a company isn't willing to tell you how long they've been around, think twice. Winters Productions has eight years experience. Collectively our staff has no less than over a half century of experience you can trust.

Do they write professionally or are they a moonlighter? Moonlighting is great for particular fields. But professional writers make their living, like Winters Productions does, with their work. The only moonlighters we employ are our editors and they all have experience in editing professionally in one area or another. As for our freelancer writers and artists, they all work full-time. Everyone at Winters Productions has at least 10 years or more experience in their field.

Did their quote of the job include the price from start to finish or was it an hourly rate with an estimation of how much they THINK it will cost? Winters Productions prefers that our clients know the terms and price of a job before we put fingers to keyboard or you write a check. This way you're not surprised by supply fees, editing fees, phone fees or hourly charges that can't be proven. What we quote is what you pay unless the scope of the project changes at your request.

Do they want all the cash up front? We work with one-half up front and the rest upon completion (On larger jobs we usually break it down into thirds and fourths). We allow two (2) rewrites of any written material or (2) mock ups of a graphic project. Although we've never had to go beyond two revisions on a project if we do then an hourly rate of $18 for writing and $50 for graphics is charged per list of changes.

Do they offer only one method of payment? Our clients can pay by check, money order or Paypal (for a 5% up-charge) for credit card orders. For new clients our terms are net 14 business days after completion. For returning clients it's net 30.

Where are you listed? You can find us at various locations such as: Michigan Lookup Business DirectoryMichigan Business Directory, Michigan Women's Marketplace

We prefer flat fee quotes instead of hourly rates. You'll know what the charge will be UPFRONT on a project with no 'hidden costs' like research fees, re-write fees, etc. Our philosophy is once a project starts you shouldn't have to worry about 'How much more will THAT cost?'  Some firms don't advise their clients of such fees, but we do.

We find flat fee quotes work best because nearly 80% of our work is from returning clients who know we deliver what we promise and expect quality service and no unfortunate surprises.

We respond to all queries usually within 24 hours but no longer than 48 hours. (We also take Sundays off to rest our typing fingers J ).

Payment Methods and Terms

Winters Productions accepts various forms of payment - checks, money orders or credit cards via Paypal. For Paypal a 10% additional charge does apply.

Our terms for new customers is always half of the total due at the project start and the other half paid upon project completion.

As we often explain to clients, think of us as a house contractor and needing a new roof. You can hire the contractor, but they won't start the work without money down. When the roof is finished, you pay the balance of the bill. With Winters Productions, it's the same.
